Gangster Movie Homework

Come up with an idea for a gangster film which is based on one of the openings we have watched.
An idea that I have come up with that is based on one of the openings we have watched is Set in New York city 1970. There is going to be a groups of gangsters and during the film there are flash backs of how they became gangsters and why they wanted to be gangsters. They are going to own a old like car and always smoking a cigar and carrying a gun. They often go into casinos. There is going to be an undercover cop that tries to be part of their 'mafia' and then during the film he finds out and reveals all of the things that the gangsters have planned.

Five things you will need to keep within the genre

• Showing from one persons point of view about how they became a gangster.
• The typical swearing and slang language.
• Family backgrounds that have an effect on the people.
• The violence in the film which indicates and puts over fear to the audience. 
• Wearing suits, smoking, the old cars.
• The classic titles that the genre carries, the black background with the white bold writing. Showing the Setting and date etc.

What one thing will you do to change/adapt the genre

• To show how one of the people in the gang have a loving family, and they have to be a carer and look after his children. Its as if he leaves his good life behind when he's out with his Mafia.

Come up with three possible scenes for a opening for a film in this genre.

1. Start as a flash back of when they was younger pretending to be fighting and their parents telling them off, and then back to reality as they're speeding off in their car with a person held hostage...

This is different to a normal gangster movie opening scene as they normal start off as a dark screen with a single person talking and explaining their past etc whereas Ive chosen to use a flash back and show the past. It is giving the film a different approach but still with the violence and the conventions of a gangster movie.

1. The undercover cop with loads of paper work and thinking of ways to catch the Mafia out. Then moves out onto the Mafia carrying out a big robbery.
2. The Mafia sitting around a big table, dark lighting and only spot lights on the peoples faces as they are talking. They are planning their next big robbery and have loads of paper work.
