Moral Panics and the Mass Media

A Moral Panic is 'the intensity of feeling expressed in a population about an issue that appears to threaten the social order.' There are 5 features of a moral panic and these are concern, hostility, consensus, disproportional and volatility.

The fear that the BBC are cutting jobs, increases the fear of other companies doing the same, as BBC is such a big company and if they are cutting so many jobs then other companies will soon do the same. This creates fear for people working and they have put the blame on the government.
