Blog update 17/01/2012

We managed to get alot completed in today's lesson. We finished the order of the rush cuts and made sure that it was in the order on the storyboard and in the order that looks most effective including the footage that we filmed yesterday of Jessica. As a group we all had a chance of editing and as I wasn't experienced with the software I started by learning the basics such as moving, cutting, rendering, changing the speed, using in point and using out points. I feel like I have learnt how to use Final cut and will be able to continue when using to in the future. When we firstly put the shots in as we intended it ran over the 2minute time limit we had to meet so we all took a chance at cutting little pieces of shot which were unessential in the opening scene. Once this was done, we managed to get the whole sequence down to under 2minutes giving us time for any titles we want to include.  As a group, we still haven't decided how we want the sequence to end so we aim to sit down and discuss this next lesson when we have watched the piece as it is and made a final decision.

We are not finished as this is the first rushes stage, we still need to get Lucy to record the voice overs for her character of Ellie. When this is done, we need to add them and get them over the right piece of footage. As a group we have to also add titles, the voice over, any colour changes we wish to make and continue to make everything run smoothly making sure that it is still looking of a professional standard.

In the screen shot below, because the colour of the footage was too dark, we decided to change the colour by using the colour correction option which was under effects and video filters.

This shot shows that we used folders to group shots together and how we are using the split screen to view and edit clips.

This screen shot goes on to show the new tools, like colour adjusting, that we are using to improve our editing and again the use of different bins for each character in the sequence.

This shows the use of the speed up tool again to speed up this time a clip of Jessica making her bed.
